The MO5.COM association has the great pleasure of announcing that Alain Huyghues-Lacour, former editor-in-chief of Joystick and Consoles+, has just joined the association as an honorary member. He will also participate in the Support Committee for the National Video Games Museum.
He considers our initiative necessary and welcome, and offers us his support by agreeing to become an honorary member of the association. There is no doubt that the support of such a personality from the world of video games will help us to make ourselves known and develop.
Alain Huyghues-Lacour's first passion is music, and he had already been part of a rock group for six years when he barely passed his baccalaureate. He abandoned his studies at university to turn professional and started with small clubs before opening for Stevie Wonder at the Olympia! He subsequently became secretary to Demis Roussos, artistic director at EMI, producer and even lyricist for Demis Roussos, Mireille Mathieu and Ennio Morricone… He discovered video games in 1981 with the Atari VCS 2600, as well as arcades while working at Polydor. While leafing through Tilt, the only specialized magazine at the time, he realized that journalists wrote well but did not always master their subject. He gradually tired of the cruel environment of the music industry and confided his latest discovery, Les Forbans, to his partner, shortly before they experienced enormous success! Intrigued by his CV, Jean-Michel Blottière, the editor-in-chief of Tilt, immediately offered an interview to AHL, who wrote a solution on the spot and replaced a journalist at short notice to write a report on shoot 'em ups, published in number 49 of December 1987. His maturity and his connections allowed him to make the difference. At a time when the French press swears by the elaborate graphics of microcomputers, he defends consoles and titles that focus on playability. His interest in the industry was also reflected in Tilt's summer special issue, Consoles+, but he was unhappy with the evolution of the magazine and joined Joystick in March 1991, for issue 15, as editor-in-chief. There he founded MEGA Force, the first magazine dedicated to Sega, as well as Joypad. In March 1993, he stopped Joystick to devote himself exclusively to console publications, but a few months later, he left the group when it was bought by Hachette. At the beginning of 1994, he succeeded Jean-Michel Blottière as editor-in-chief of Consoles+, which had since become a magazine in its own right, where he remained for ten years! He also directed Nintendo Magazine during the Nintendo 64 period. He retired when the press was experiencing a serious crisis, but has made a comeback in recent years in Pix'n Love and on Gameblog.
