The MO5.COM association has the great pleasure of announcing that Daniel “Dan McRae” Macré, creator of Vroom, has just joined the association as an honorary member. He will also participate in the Support Committee for the National Video Games Museum.
He considers our initiative necessary and welcome, and offers us his support by agreeing to become an honorary member of the association. There is no doubt that the support of such a personality from the world of video games will help us to make ourselves known and develop.
Although he has worked in IT since 1970, it was in the mid-1980s that Daniel Macré fell under the spell of the Pole Position arcade machine. He subsequently acquired a Sinclair QL (which he has since donated to the MO5.COM association) and spent 6 months developing QL Vroom, a Formula 1 game worthy of its model. He tried to adapt it on the Atari ST in 1986, but faced with the mass of work to be done in his free time, he suggested to Jean-Luc Langlois, who had just found success with Le Manoir de Mortevielle within his company Lankhor, to develop and publish Vroom together. It was released in October 1991 and represented a real technical feat for the time. In 1996, Daniel Macré left his former employer to devote himself full time to video games, and became manager of Lankhor. The company lands a contract with Eidos for several Formula 1 games on PC and Playstation, and also produces Warm Up! for Microïds. Unfortunately, Lankhor did not survive the difficult crisis that affected French video games in the early 2000s and the company closed on December 31, 2001, not without having completed Ski Park Manager (Microïds, February 2002).
