The MO5.COM association has the great pleasure of announcing that Philippe Dessoly, creator of Mr. Nutz, has just joined the association as an honorary member. He will also participate in the Support Committee for the National Video Games Museum.
He considers our initiative necessary and welcome, and offers us his support by agreeing to become an honorary member of the association. There is no doubt that the support of such a personality from the world of video games will help us to make ourselves known and develop.
Born in 1969 in Saint-Vallier, Philippe Dessoly began drawing at the age of eight following the discovery of Goldorak, and decided from middle school to devote himself to his passion, mangas and comics. Thus, in 1986, he entered the Professional High School of Graphic Arts and Books Corvisart. Dreaming of working in cartoons, he tried the entrance exam for Gobelins, without success, then seized the opportunity in 1989 to begin his career at Ocean Software, a British publisher which has had a French branch since 1986. Philippe Dessoly participated in the creation of the graphics for original titles such as Beach Volley (1989) and Ivanhoe (1990), and game ports Japanese arcade games on 16-bit micros, a specialty of the subsidiary, such as Toki (1991) or Snow Bros. – the latter being ultimately canceled although completed. When Ocean France closed its doors in 1992, he decided with programmer Pierre Adane to develop Mr. Nutz, which the parent company agreed to publish in 1993 on Mega Drive and Super Nintendo. Awarded by the French press, he enjoyed a certain commercial success. With the arrival of 3D, Philippe Dessoly continued to create pixelart, particularly on mobile phones, for Ocean then Infogrames after their merger in 1996. At the same time, he began his activity as an illustrator as Golgoth71 and was contacted in 2003 by the Japanese derivatives company HL Pro, which made him the official designer of prestigious series such as Albator, Ulysse 31 and Goldorak, to create numerous packaging, figurines, magazine covers, etc. Moreover, he also collaborated with the late Christophe Gayraud on an RPG Captain Harlock as well as on Flashback Legends on Game Boy Advance, which unfortunately will not see the light of day – although the second is finished! The two men nevertheless co-founded the Otaboo studio with Mickaël Pratali in 2006, which creates various licensed games for Nintendo laptops. Tired of the world of video games, Philippe Dessoly was however contacted to bring up to date, in HD, arcade classics like Joe and Mac: Caveman Ninja, Toki and Magical Drop, but only the last one has been released to date, in 2012. Currently focused on the world of manga, he hopes to be able to evolve into that of comics and give a sequel to Mr. Nutz…
