Yves Grolet

The MO5.COM association has the great pleasure of announcing that Yves Grolet, co-creator of Outcast, has just joined the association as an honorary member. He will also participate in the Support Committee for the National Video Games Museum.

He considers our initiative necessary and welcome, and offers us his support by agreeing to become an honorary member of the association. There is no doubt that the support of such a personality from the world of video games will help us to make ourselves known and develop.

Born on February 13, 1969 in Charleroi, Belgium, Yves Grolet began his professional career in video games at the age of sixteen by programming the adventure game Never Outside on Commodore 64, published by Lankhor in 1987 and whose graphics were designed by Franck Sauer. The two developers thus attracted the attention of Ubisoft, which brought them to France to carry out the port of Iron Lord (1989) on the microcomputer. After two years, at the end of the development of Unreal (1990), they returned to Belgium to found with the programmer Yann Robert the studio Art & Magic, which continued in the vein of very impressive games on a technical level with Agony (1992) on behalf of Psygnosis. Then they launched into the arcade market with Ultimate Tennis (1993) which enjoyed great success, unlike Stone Ball (1994) which arrived in the midst of the industry's transformation towards 3D. Yves Grolet, Franck Sauer and Yann Robert then left the company in 1995 to found Appeal, which developed No Respect (1997) for Ocean and especially the ambitious Outcast (1999) for Infogrames, a precursor of open world games entirely made in 3D Voxel. But despite its success, the three men separated and in 2001 Yves launched Elsewhere Entertainment, a studio which he sold to the German publisher 10Tacle after having released several games such as David Douillet Judo (2006) then, in 2009, he created with Christian Guillemot the company AMA Studios, this time specializing in motion gaming via the Kinect camera. In 2013, Yves reunited with Franck Sauer and Yann Robert, who had created Fresh3D for their part, to form Daoka with the AMA Studios teams, which developed Fighter Within (2013), the Xbox One launch game on behalf of Ubisoft. But at the end of 2015, they decided to resurrect Appeal and give a second life to their masterpiece with Outcast: Second Contact (2017), before developing this universe in future games.
