Alekseï Pajitnov, in the course of our discussions, expressed his concern about the increasing disappearance of information on the history of video games and computing, as well as the obsolescence of personal data carriers. This is why he considers our initiative to be necessary and welcome, and is offering us his support by agreeing to become an honorary member of the association. There's no doubt that the support of such a prominent figure in the world of video games will help us to raise our profile and grow.
Born in 1956 in the Soviet Union, Alekseï Pajitnov graduated in 1979 from the computer centre of the USSR Academy of Sciences, where he immediately became a speech recognition researcher. In 1984, he created Tetris by trying to reproduce one of his favourite games, pentomino. Distributed freely in the Soviet Union and then in the Eastern bloc, the game appeared in the West in 1986 and became one of the greatest classics in the history of video games: over 170 million copies have been sold on more than 30 different platforms, and there have been more than 100 million downloads from mobile phones. Pajitnov acquired the rights to the game in 1996 and founded the Tetris Company and the Tetris.com.
