Yves Grolet

Born on 13 February 1969 in Charleroi, Belgium, Yves Grolet began his professional career in video games at the age of sixteen, programming the adventure game Never Outside on Commodore 64published by Lankhor in 1987, with graphics by Franck Sauer. The two developers have drawn the attention ofUbisoft which brings them to France to carry out the portage ofIron Lord (1989) on the microcomputer.

After two years, at the end of the development ofUnreal (1990), they returned to Belgium to found, with the programmer Yann Robert the studio Art & Magicwhich continues the tradition of technically impressive games with Agony (1992) on behalf of Psygnosis. Then they entered the arcade market with Ultimate Tennis (1993), which was a great success, unlike Stone Ball (1994), which came at a time when the industry was moving towards 3D. Yves Grolet, Franck Sauer and Yann Robert left the company in 1995 to found Appealwhich is developing No Respect (1997) for Ocean and above all the ambitious Outcast (1999) for Infogramesthe forerunner of open-world games and produced entirely in 3D Voxel.

But despite its success, the three men went their separate ways and in 2001 Yves launched Elsewhere Entertainmenta studio he sold to the German publisher 10Tacle after releasing several games such as David Douillet Judo (2006) and then, in 2009, with Christian Guillemot the company AMA Studiosthis time specialising in motion gaming via the camera Kinect.

In 2013, Yves reunited with Franck Sauer and Yann Robert, who had also created Fresh3Dto work with the teams at AMA Studios Daokawhich is developing Fighter Within (2013), the launch game for the Xbox One for Ubisoft. But at the end of 2015, they decided to resurrect Appeal and give a second life to their masterpiece with Outcast: Second Contact (2017), before developing this universe in future games.
